IFS: AI in Quality Control video

IFS wanted to highlight how its ERP software could offer intelligence in end-to-end manufacture, transforming data into business value. Following briefings with IFS Manufacturing subject matter experts, and desk research, I developed treatments and voiceover/supers scripts for a series of 12 succinct 60-90 second explainer videos hosted on the industry landing page. This video script sample looks at way AI can improve Quality Control.

Intelligence and automation can help manufacturers to ensure the integrity of their products and data.

Quality data is needed everywhere, from procurement to production. By bringing together and assimilating disparate information about quality and other product-related detail, AI can create structured data which can be used to formulate recommended actions.

AI can support quality management and the actual inspection process. Computer vision technology assists the inspection process by helping to collect data, identify non-conforming items and automatically fill relevant ERP fields. Machine Learning then ‘learns’ how products need to be Quality Control checked. It can use QC results, number of scraps, number of returns, complaints or even part supplier history. Based on results, levels and/or recommended tests can be adjusted.

Wider business benefits of using AI in Quality Management include:

  • Reduced cost of recalls and reduced possibility of fines and exclusions
  • The ability to discover the sources of quality faults by cross-relating data against associated machines or operator shifts
  • Reduced cost of scrap and waste by predicting and mitigating losses before they happen
  • …and the ability to predict yields based on analysis of supplier quality, crop growing locations and seasonality

IFS is currently testing the application of cognitive computing, from search to computer vision, to enhance quality management processes.
