AI in Procurement video scriptwriting, IFS

IFS wanted to highlight how its ERP software could offer intelligence in end-to-end manufacture, transforming data into business value. Following briefings with IFS Manufacturing subject matter experts, and desk research, I developed treatments and voiceover/supers scripts for a series of 12 succinct 60-90 second explainer videos hosted on the industry landing page. This video script sample looks at way AI can support Procurement.

Intelligence and automation can help manufacturers to make better procurement decisions. The ultimate promise from AI is automated management and execution of the complete order process by the ERP system.

AI-based automation can help improve sourcing. For example, chatbots can assist potential suppliers to bid/quote. Past vendor performance data can be analyzed using Machine Learning to provide scoring-based decision-making.

AI can also gather and analyze data available from external sources in the public domain, offering useful insight. For example, it could compare alternative supplier profiles by looking at CSR/certification, environmental performance and revenue performance. Similarly analyzing environmental, geopolitical and weather data sources could provide advanced warning of possible risks or world events that may affect the supply chain or impact pricing.

AI offers the ability to take historical commercial data (for instance market pricing) and correlate it against the effects of external influences (for example weather) to estimate the likelihood of similar market changes occurring again.

Wider business benefits of using AI in Procurement include:

  • Reduced purchasing spends
  • Improved quality and faster purchasing times
  • Better sourcing networks with more opportunity to buy from different vendors
  • …and access to vendor predictive data can help predict product yields

AI can help optimize a general purchase strategy, making it more dynamic and less reactive. Decisions to anticipate or delay purchases can be made by analyzing market trends, creating more dynamic and effective inventory management.
