Spillers, a leader in animal nutrition for over 50 years, produce a wide range of equine leisure feeds. The brief for this product brochure update was to re-headline, redraft and edit to create a more accessible consumer tone-of-voice, clearly highlighting when, why and how specific formulations can offer horse owners specific nutritional benefits.

Cool things down.

Excitable? Unpredictable?

Stay calm and controlled.

It’s important to consider how feed can affect behaviour.

If a feed has a high level of cereal, a horse or pony may become excitable and unpredictable. Cereals contain starch – an energy source that’s digested relatively quickly. The sudden release of energy that follows may cause ‘fizzy’, excitable behaviour.

Reducing the amount of cereal starch in the diet can help to minimise the risk of behavioural problems.

Both SPILLERS® Horse and Pony Cubes and SPILLERS® Cool Mix™ have controlled levels of cereal starch and good levels of fibre to help reduce the risk of over-excitability.

We’ll help you keep things calm and controlled.

Taste Matters.

Fussy eater?

A tasty solution.

Feed should be nutritious. But taste matters too.

Especially if you’re faced with a horse that’s choosy about what he eats.

Even the ideal feed can do no good if it isn’t being eaten.

SPILLERS® Meadow® Herb offers the ideal solution: a wholesome, non-heating* herbal mix that smells and tastes every bit as good as it looks.

In trials, owners found that their horses consistently enjoyed eating the mix. In fact, their horses and ponies found Meadow® Herb more palatable than their original mix: even the fussiest eaters were easily tempted by the smell and taste.

Healthy nutrition has never been more appetising.

Age Has its Benefits.

Active retirement?

Eat healthily.

Today’s horses and ponies are living longer.

And, just lust like people, they can show the signs of aging at different times.

It used to be the case that horses were considered ‘aged’ at 15 years. But with better nutritional understanding and management, many horses and ponies remain healthy and active well into their later years.

SPILLERS® has led the way in innovative equine nutrition. Now, working closely with Redwings Horse Sanctuary, the UK’s leading home of rest for retired horses, we have developed diets which specifically meet these needs.

Each horse and pony ages differently, but all can benefit from supportive nutrition to help keep them active for longer. Our unique solution – SPILLERS® Senior - provides a choice of two feeds: one to maintain and one to build condition. In addition, both feeds have core formula of joint, digestive and micronutrient support.

It’s the perfect way to ensure an active retirement.

Control Performance.

Excitable? Laid-back?

Take the reins.

As exercise makes the whole body work harder, so the need for good nutrition is even more acute.

Feeding for a competition horse is a matter of striking the right balance.

On the one hand is power. And on the other is control.

Your horse should have energy and be listening to you. It should respond well. And it should maintain condition and performance through the season.

If it becomes too exuberant, you may need to reduce the energy content of the feed to recover temperament. However, if the adjustment is too great, this could compromise performance and condition.

The SPILLERS® RESPONSE™ range lets you take the reins. It provides both instant release and slow release energy feed choices – letting you fine tune energy levels to suit a horse’s individual temperament and needs.
